Wailuku
About Wailuku
The seat of Maui's government, Wailuku is home to an assortment of local mom-and-pop shops, many of which have been around for generations, and new, eccentric boutiques and cafes. Enjoy a day on the historic Market Street in Wailuku, with its wooden storefronts at the foot of the lush Maui mountains, or for an adventure into Maui's Hawaiian history, Iao Valley State Park is just a short drive up into the Maui Mountains. Iao Valley is home to the iconic 2,250-ft-tall Iao Needle and is where King Kamehameha l when he was uniting the Hawaiian Islands, conquered the army of Maui. Take a swim into the cool, clear waters of the Iao Stream, picnic at Kepaniwai Park, and enjoy the lush tropical flora and fauna. For out-of-state travelers, reservations are required to enter into the Iao Valley State Park, and you can make such reservations by clicking this link https://gostateparks.hawaii.gov/iao-valley
